Introduction to the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering

The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Sharif University of Technology was established in 1966 under the name of the Department of Chemical Engineering. In 1999, the department was renamed the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering to reflect its expanded focus on upstream petroleum engineering research and activities.Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the development and application of industrial processes involving physical and chemical transformations of materials. Petroleum engineering encompasses all aspects of oil exploration and production, constituting an upstream industry within the energy sector. Petroleum engineering deals with underground hydrocarbon reservoirs, their exploration, production, and optimal exploitation.The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Sharif University of Technology currently offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in both chemical engineering and petroleum engineering.
